Anybody going to give Warhammer a shot? Thought it might be nice to attempt to keep Dalaranians on the same server. I know I'm trying to convince Lopan to play with me, but he said he's only coming if Dutchie comes (something about a man-crush...?).

I played the Warhammer beta. It has a lot of good features, but it never really grabbed my attention. However, the public quests are a ton of fun. And they have maybe the best player Journal ever.

I know on my hardware, which is a bit dated now, it ran rather poorly. I don't think it was fully optimized, but the graphic detail was very poor and I only got it up to around 15 fps.

I'm going to wait it out for a bit as I did with Conan. I heard really good things about Conan in the first weeks, but it sort of crashed and burned once people got to max level, and I haven't heard a lot of positive feedback on WAR yet to make me think it will fare better than Conan. Hopefully it comes together nicely, WoW could use some competition. Certainly the siege stuff and pvp features should push the genre some.

At the very least Mythic has been more honest about the game than Blizzard ever was.

Yeah they have, but it still doesn't paint a rosy picture. Hopefully it's because they're so confident in their game.

I'll probably be trying it out. Beavus and Beefshield have expressed interest in trying it out so I'm sure I'll probably end up purchasing a copy too. I'd be more than thrilled to check it out with guildies (and former guildies!).

Let me know what server you decide to play on and I'll pass on the info!

From what I've read, there are two server types: Core and Open. The Core servers have distinct PvE and RvR zones. The Open servers allow RvR to happen even in PvE zones. I'm not sure which server type sounds better. I've been playing Age of Conan on a free-for-all server and have actually grown to enjoy it. /shrug

Roll on a pvp-equivalent (rvr?) server if you're starting out day one. You won't suffer very much from ganking since all will be relatively equal. /cents

I'll be checking it out soon after the launch. Most likely on a 'Core' type server.

“Mythic laid off 80 people today, which is about 40% of the company and responsible for 90% of the content. According to a friend of mine who left before this happened, they’re putting Warhammer into ‘maintenance mode.’”

Guess that's that, or will be in coming months. Such a shame, that was a great property. It coulda been a contenda! :cry:

Looks like it's worse than that, EA is laying off 1500 employees, and killing or reducing the bottom 1/3 of their titles.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/ea-details-job-losses-and-cancelled-projects

"Electronic Arts has a core slate of games label and sports franchises that we will iterate on a either annual or bi-annual basis. And I think you know what those major titles are - all of them are selling or have sold in their most recent edition 2 million units or more," he detailed.

"After that, we've got The Sims and Hasbro, and frankly anything that doesn't measure up to looking like it can pencil out to be in very high profit contributor and high unit seller got cut from our title slate from this point going forward.

"So it is really, in a way, if you could array our title slate up knowing what we did about what we would have otherwise brought to market, we cut the bottom third of it."

So last week I had an enquiry about why someone would stop doing business with EA. Puzzled, I look them up and noticed they lost 1 billion dollars last year end...

On a side note Activision/Blizzard has made money again this past year after losses the last. Helps that they've had some strong releases in Guitar Hero, Call of Duty and WOTLK.

WoW is like seawall that the other mmo's are crashing against trying to bottle the same lightning twice. I seriously hope that TOR tries to differentiate instead of doing as Aion and WAR have, which was to recreate the game that wow was 3 years ago :(

On the upside, WAR dying will boost Aion considerably. That game has some potential if it can actually survive long enough.

This is sad news, but definitely not a surprise.

I've been playing Warhammer off and on for the past couple of months. I play it to get my MMO fix. I don't seem to spend as much time playing as I did WoW, but it's still a nice diversion. That, and an orc yelling obscenities at dwarves is a lot of fun ;}

That being said, as I get up in levels, there are fewer people to play with. Most re-roll a lower level and try to stay in Tier 1 or Tier 2.

So, who knows what I'll do...perhaps a Tauren Paladin is in my future :}
